Grand Rapids, MI – For months known for showers and flowers, April and May also bring the threat of wildfires to many parts of the country. The warm and dry weather of spring entices many people to clean up their yards and contemplate burning the debris. According to statistics from the National Interagency Fire Center, more than 3.4 million acres of wildland burned in 2008 was a result of human actions. “Every year, many families lose their homes and possessions to wildfires,” says Kerrlynn Fisher, West Zone regional manager for HelpPoint® Claim Services. “The best way to minimize the effects of these types of disasters is to stop them from occurring in the first place.
